Selling Top Candidates on Your Job Opening

Competition for new talent is tough in the real estate industry. Everybody wants the best, and often times “A” list candidates are not openly looking to make a change. Therefore, it is your job to convince them that your company and position would be worth consideration.

Here are some tips to finding candidates and selling them on why to join your company.

START WITH A STRONG JOB DESCRIPTION

You need to go beyond the job functions and the skills and experience required. Make the job description action-oriented so the candidate can envision themselves in the role. Include information about your firm, corporate culture, and growth strategy. This will attract more high level candidates to inquire about the position.

HIGHLIGHT WHAT YOUR CANDIDATES WANT

In preliminary interviews, ask the “w” questions: who, what, why, when to understand what motivates a candidate and then you can appeal to their needs and wants. Just as you’re looking for the best candidate for your company, they’re looking for the best opportunity for them.

BEAT YOUR COMPETITION

Where you stand within your industry is part of your attraction. If you are not as strong, then sell the growth opportunity within this position and company at large. Ask the candidate what reservations they may have and then honestly address them, hopefully in a positive way.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR POSITION

The market has changed and the more you can meet the unique needs of a top candidate the better chance you have of your offer being accepted. Your list of perks and the flexibility you have to customize the work environment to them will increase your chances of building a cohesive team that fosters your corporate culture.
