What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self?
It’s a question we’ve all thought about, and perhaps even been asked directly: What advice would you give your younger self? At the IREM Houston Chapter, we’re fortunate to have a mix of young, energetic professionals and seasoned veterans in the real estate management industry. So we thought, why not ask some of our experienced members this question and share the answers with our emerging new ones?
Below are just a few invaluable words of wisdom from our members:
“3 rules to success in real estate; Network, network and network.” – Shawn Harvey, CPM, Lee & Associates
“Take advantage of every opportunity to gain knowledge from the beginning and throughout your career. Build networks of industry counterparts, mentors, and affiliations. For each time you are given a chance to advance, don’t forget to open the door for someone else.” – Gloria Stelly, CPM Candidate, CBRE, AMO
“Don’t procrastinate - Make something happen”. – Janie Snider, CPM, Griffin Partners
“Try, try, TRY not to waste time being irate and frustrated by inconsequential things. If someone thinks you aren’t ready for a challenge, or need more experience, just nod and prove them wrong. The only limits you have are the ones you put on yourself.” – Stephanies Sides-Sembera, CPM, Transwestern
“Your career path is not a sprint, yet a marathon. Be patient while soaking up as much knowledge as you possibly can, because there’s no way around paying your dues!” – Kaci Hancock, CPM, ACoM, Wulfe & Co.
“You get out of it what you put into it. Nothing ventured equals nothing gained, so give it 110%!” – Natalie Woodard, CPM, Encino Energy
If you’re new to the IREM Houston Chapter, new to property management, or considering making the jump to this industry, we invite you to join us at an upcoming event for free. Our Goal Getter Seminar & Mixer will share more career tips like those above and give attendees an opportunity to network with our most senior members. Click here to RSVP for this event.
